It’s a tribute that we didn’t see coming! Prince and Paris Jackson, the children of Michael spoke this Sunday at the Tony Awards to celebrate the memory of their father whose discography is this year honored in the musical MJ: The Musical. Now aged 24 and 25, the two grew into young adults as their childhood tears moved the world when their father passed away in 2009.
The scene took place at Radio City Music Hall in New York this Sunday on the occasion of the Tony Awards, the awards for American theater, the equivalent of the Oscars for the discipline. Paris Jackson appeared in a sublime beige dress that revealed her shoulders as well as her many tattoos on her arms. As for Prince Jackson, it was in a sober but no less chic all-black suit that he appeared on the red carpet (see slideshow). Only their little brother Blanket, now Bigi, was not present. Nothing surprising as we know that the young man of 20 years is extremely discreet.
Honored that the work inspired by the music of their father is nominated in ten different categories during this 75th edition of the Tony Awards, they took the floor on the stage to express their gratitude. “A lot of people seem to think our dad changed popular music forever and who are we to disagree with that? But what people might not know is that he loved musicals and stage shows, Prince said. That’s why we’re incredibly honored to present his first-ever nomination in the Musical Show category, which uses many of his iconic titles, and delves into the complexity and creative genius of our father.“
The comedy was ultimately awarded in the category of best choreography, best sound and best lighting for a musical. Also note that Myles Frost, interpreter of Michael Jackson, won the prize for best actor in a musical. The prize for best comedy finally went to A Strange Loopwhile Best Play was won by The Lehman Trilogy.
The lucky winners had the chance to be applauded by the cream of the profession. We noted, among others, the presence of the great Samuel L. Jackson, the beautiful Vanessa Hudgens or the charming Andrew Garfield.
