The League of Nations continued this Saturday evening with six matches scheduled at 8:45 p.m. as part of the third day. At the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary hosted Germany, held in check by Italy and then England. Positioned very high on the ground from the start of the match, the Mannschaft would however quickly be surprised. On a header from Szalai, repelled by Neuer, Nagy concluded with a clear shot under the bar (1-0, 6th). Stung, however, the Germans were quick to react. Found in depth, Hofmann was ahead of Gulacsi’s exit to equalize (1-1, 9th).
Master of the debates despite several strikes conceded, Germany stumbled, despite everything, on a Hungarian block well in place. Moreover, Kimmich’s teammates were not far from cracking on an individual error from Kehrer but Neuer came out on top against Sallai (74th). Despite the fresh blood brought by Hans-Dieter Flick at the start of the last quarter of an hour, Hungarians and Germans left each other back to back (1-1). With this result, Germany is 3rd, Hungary is in second place, just behind Italy, leader of the group..
Belgium hooked in the last moments!
In the other matches of this evening, the Netherlands received Poland with the ambition of taking the lead in group 4. But at De Kuip in Rotterdam, Louis Van Gaal’s men lost even before the end of the the first half hour. Taking advantage of a cross from Zalewski, Cash fixed Blind and deceived Flekken with a cross shot from the right (0-1, 19′). Upon returning from the locker room, Zielinski even doubled the stake for the Poles (0-2, 47th) but the Batavians ended up reacting. First through Klaassen (2-1, 51st) before Dumfries, who started on the edge of offside, equalized (2-2, 54th). Back in this match, the Dutch however failed to take the lead and Piatek was even close to restoring the advantage to the Poles. In vain. After a penalty missed by Depay in the last moments, the two selections left back to back.
In the same pool, Belgium, victorious over Poland the previous day and runner-up to the Dutch at kick-off, moved to the Cardiff City Stadium to challenge Wales. Overall dominant in the game (65% possession of the ball), the Red Devils logically ended up finding the fault in the Welsh defense. On a caviar from Batshuayi, Tielemans concluded with a flat right foot in the small net of Hennessey (0-1, 51st). In control, the Belgians finally cracked on the wire. On the counter-attack, Ramsey superbly found Johnson who finished with the right foot (1-1, 87th). A draw that benefits the Netherlands, leaders despite the draw conceded against Poland. Note also the victory of Romania against Finland (1-0) or the draw between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro (1-1). Finally, in Group 1 of League C, Turkey won in Luxembourg thanks to the achievements of Calhanoglu and Dursun.
